Villamoros de Mansilla

Villamoros de Mansilla is a small hamlet in the municipality of Mansilla Mayor, León, on the Camino Frances between Mansilla de las Mulas and Puente de Villarente. The route here follows the channel of the Portillo de Santa Ana, a water management canal, through a pleasant tree-lined valley corridor.

The poplar-lined path beside the channel provides welcome shade and a different character from the open plain stages above, the enclosed green corridor a sensory transition before the León approach. The hamlet itself is a modest cluster of stone farmhouses.

For pilgrims, Villamoros represents the beginning of the landscape shift from the exposed Meseta to the greener, more enclosed terrain of the León river valley approach.
