Description
Villadangos del Páramo is a municipality in the province of León, on the main Camino Frances route. The town is on the principal northern corridor from León and serves as the rejoining point where the main Frances route and the southern variant via Villar de Mazarife converge before the descent to the Orbigo valley.
The town has a service character with full pilgrim infrastructure and the church of Santiago Apóstol as its main monument. The surrounding plateau landscape maintains the characteristic Páramo quality: flat, wide, and dominated by cereal cultivation.
For pilgrims, Villadangos marks the end of the Páramo plateau and the beginning of the descent toward the Orbigo river, one of the more dramatic landscape transitions of the León stages.
