Description

Edit

Trasierra is a small locality in Cantabria, its name meaning beyond the ridge or behind the mountain, a common Iberian toponym indicating a settlement on the far side of a hill or ridge from a reference point. The locality sits in the enclosed terrain behind a coastal ridge on the Camino del Norte section approaching Comillas.

The surrounding landscape has the green sheltered quality of a valley protected from the Atlantic winds by the ridge above, with pasture, mixed woodland, and the enclosed farmstead character typical of the Cantabrian coast hinterland.

The Camino passes through Trasierra as part of the undulating terrain between the clifftop sections and the valley passages on the approach to Comillas.
