Description
Sarela da Baixo is a small locality in the municipality of Santiago de Compostela, in the province of A Coruña, Galicia. It sits in the valley of the Sarela river, a minor tributary that joins the Sar just before the approaches to the historic city. The valley retains a green, enclosed woodland character of oak, willow, and alder along the watercourse.
The locality is effectively the last rural passage before the Camino enters the urban periphery of Santiago de Compostela. For pilgrims on the Camino de Fisterra and Muxía variants departing from Santiago, Sarela da Baixo is one of the first waypoints on the outward journey.
