Description

Edit

San Marcelo is a small locality in the municipality of Salas, in Asturias, on the Camino Primitivo route between Grado and Cornellana. The dedication to Saint Marcellus, a Roman martyr venerated across the Iberian Peninsula, marks this as a traditional parish with medieval ecclesiastical origins.

The setting is the enclosed green valley terrain of the Asturian interior, where the Camino Primitivo follows the river corridor heading northwest through a series of small communities toward the monastery at Cornellana. The surrounding woodland and pasture maintain the lush Atlantic quality of the route.
