Descripción
San Cristovo do Real is a small locality in the province of Lugo, Galicia, on the southern San Xil route variant of the Camino Frances between Triacastela and Sarria. The hamlet has a quiet agricultural character with traditional Galician stone farmhouses and hórreo granaries in the enclosed valley landscape.
The dedication to Saint Christopher, San Cristovo, is fitting for a village on a pilgrimage route, as Saint Christopher is the patron of travellers and protector of those crossing difficult terrain. The surrounding terrain is the enclosed green mountain valley of the Lugo interior.
For pilgrims on the southern route, San Cristovo do Real is a passage point in the quieter mountain corridor that avoids the more heavily trafficked main Frances route.
