Description

Edit

Salinas is a coastal locality in the municipality of Castrillón, in Asturias, situated on the Atlantic shore west of the Avilés estuary. The beach is one of the longest on the central Asturian coast, with a promenade backed by pine forest and the characteristic dune vegetation of the Atlantic shoreline.

The resort has a traditional summer character with Belle Époque and early twentieth-century seafront architecture, and a pine forest park that separates the beach from the residential town. The Niemeyer Cultural Centre is visible on the far side of the estuary from the beach promenade, creating a distinctive urban-coastal panorama.

Pilgrims on the Camino del Norte coastal section pass through or near Salinas on the beach and promenade route heading westward from Avilés toward Piedras Blancas.
