O Porriño

O Porriño is a municipality in the province of Pontevedra, Galicia, situated in the lowland valley south of Vigo. The town is closely associated with the quarrying and processing of granite, particularly the distinctive pale grey-blue Porriño granite that has been exported worldwide and used in construction across Galicia and beyond.

The town centre has a functional commercial character built partly on the prosperity of the stone industry. A notable landmark is the Casa do Concello (town hall), designed in the Galician rationalist style. The surrounding industrial and commercial infrastructure reflects the municipality’s economic base.

The Camino Português passes through O Porriño on a section of the route where the industrial character of the town offers a contrast with the rural landscapes to the north and south.
