Moraime

Moraime is a civil parish in the municipality of Muxía, in the province of A Coruña, Galicia. It is notable for the Monasterio de San Xulián de Moraime, a Benedictine monastery founded in the twelfth century whose church survives as one of the finest Romanesque buildings in the Costa da Morte region. The church retains its basic Romanesque plan with a carved portal, decorated capitals, and architectural fabric from the original construction.

The monastery’s setting near the Atlantic coast and its architectural quality make it a significant stop for pilgrims on the Muxía variant of the Camino. The surrounding parish occupies the rolling terrain between the inland plateau and the Costa da Morte coastline.
