Description

Edit

Marinhas is a civil parish in the municipality of Esposende, in the Braga district, situated on the Atlantic coast north of Esposende town. The name may relate to marinhas, meaning salt pans or coastal marshland, though the landscape today is dominated by coastal pine forest, dunes, and the narrow coastal strip between the sea and the first inland settlements.

The coastal Camino Português follows the shoreline through Marinhas on the long northern stretch between Esposende and Viana do Castelo, passing through pine forest, dune scrub, and the occasional beach access point. The section is one of the wilder and more atmospheric of the coastal route.
