Description

Edit

Lintzoain is a hamlet in the municipality of Erro, Navarra, situated on a ridge above the Erro valley at approximately 900 metres. The settlement has a distinctive character: a tight cluster of medieval stone houses with slate-roofed farm buildings forming a single lane that clings to the hillside.

The village retains a largely unaltered medieval form, with the parish church of San Saturnino integrated into the stone fabric of the settlement. The name is Basque in origin, reflecting the deeply Basque cultural identity of this transitional zone between the Basque country and Romance-speaking Navarra.

Pilgrims descend steeply from Lintzoain into the Erro valley below on one of the more dramatic descent sections of this stage, the forest path switching back through dense oak and beech before reaching the valley floor.
