Descripción
Lezo is a municipality in the province of Gipuzkoa in the Basque Country, situated on the hillside above the natural harbour of Pasajes (Pasaia), between Irun and San Sebastián. The town has a compact traditional Basque character with a main square lined with painted house facades and the church of San Juan Bautista at its centre.
Lezo is known for housing a relic of the True Cross, the Lignum Crucis, which has been venerated here since the sixteenth century and draws local pilgrims each year. The view from the upper village across the Pasajes estuary and the Jaizkibel massif is among the more dramatic of the early Camino del Norte stages.
The route passes through Lezo as it descends from the Jaizkibel ridge toward the estuary and San Sebastián.
