Description

Edit

Larribar-Sorhapuru is a commune in the Pyrenees-Atlantiques department, formed from two Basque villages on the Via Podiensis route between Aroue and Ostabat-Asme. The combined settlement has the quiet dispersed farmstead character typical of the Basque interior, with traditional white-and-timber farmhouses in the surrounding fern and pasture hills.

The landscape here is the enclosed Atlantic Basque country at its most characteristic: intense green, the hillsides covered in bracken and gorse, the farmhouses set individually on hillside terraces. The approach to Ostabat, where the three French Camino routes converge, gives this stage a particular pilgrimage significance.
