Description
Larrasoaña is a municipality in Navarra situated on the Arga river, approximately 27 kilometres from Roncesvalles on the Camino Frances. The town developed as a medieval pilgrim rest stop and retains a historic character with the thirteenth-century Puente de los Bandidos spanning the Arga and the Romanesque church of San Nicolás.
The bridge was the site of attacks on pilgrims by bandits in the medieval period, a danger commemorated in its name. The historic core of the town clusters around the bridge approach and includes several medieval stone houses and the remains of the old pilgrim hospice.
Larrasoaña is the standard end point of the second stage of the Camino Frances from Roncesvalles, approximately 27 kilometres from the monastery.
