Description
Labastide-Marnhac is a commune in the Lot department, situated on the plateau south of Cahors on the Via Podiensis route toward Montcuq. The village is a bastide, one of the planned new towns founded in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries across southwest France, characterised by a regular grid street pattern and a central market square often surrounded by covered arcades.
The bastide form gives Labastide-Marnhac a spatial clarity distinct from the organic growth of older village centres. The surrounding plateau landscape is the open farmland and scrub oak of the Lot interior.
