La Iglesia (Ruiloba)

La Iglesia refers to the parish church nucleus of Ruiloba, a municipality in Cantabria situated on the coastal ridge above the Oyambre natural park. The setting is elevated and exposed, with the Bay of Biscay visible to the north and the distant Picos de Europa snow peaks occasionally visible to the south.

Ruiloba is known for its position overlooking one of the most scenic stretches of the Cantabrian coast, with the Oyambre estuary and dune system below and the medieval town of Comillas a short distance west. The church occupies the traditional village centre on the ridge, surrounded by stone farmhouses and enclosed pasture.

For pilgrims on the Camino del Norte, Ruiloba-La Iglesia falls on the coastal ridge section between Comillas and San Vicente de la Barquera, with the exceptional natural landscape of Oyambre defining the visual experience of this stage.
