Descripción
Hospital Fonfaraón is the ruin of a medieval pilgrim hospital on the Camino Primitivo in the municipality of Allande, in Asturias, situated on the high mountain terrain of the second major sierra crossing west of Pola de Allande. Like the other hospital ruins on this route, it formed part of the medieval hospitaller network that supported pilgrims crossing the demanding western Asturian mountains.
The Fonfaraón ruins are among several such sites on the Allande mountain stage, each recording a specific former shelter point on what was historically one of the most challenging sections of any Camino to Santiago. The proximity of multiple hospital ruins on this relatively short mountain section reflects the severity of the crossing and the need for regular shelters.
