Description

Edit

Hazas de Cesto is a small municipality in Cantabria, situated in the inland valleys between the coastal towns of Laredo and Noja. The name combines hazas, meaning cultivated strips of land or field plots, with de Cesto, meaning of the basket, referencing the traditional wicker basket-weaving craft historically practiced here.

The municipality occupies the enclosed green valley terrain typical of the Cantabrian interior, with pasture, mixed woodland, and the scattered stone farmhouses of traditional Cantabrian rural settlement. The basket-weaving tradition, while less active today, gave the locality a distinctive artisanal identity in the regional economy.

On the Camino del Norte, Hazas de Cesto lies on the inland route between Laredo and the coastal villages approaching Noja.
