Description
El Burgo Ranero is a municipality in the province of León, Castilla y León, on the Camino Frances between Calzada del Coto and Reliegos. The village occupies the flat Leonese plain, one of the more remote and exposed sections of the route, with cereal monoculture dominating the surrounding landscape.
The village architecture reflects the adobe and stone tradition of the Leonese plain, with earthy-toned walls contrasting with the grey stone predominant in Burgos. A pilgrim fountain and hostel provide basic services on this isolated stage.
For pilgrims, El Burgo Ranero is often the overnight stop at the end of the solitary stage from Sahagún, its modest but functional character appreciated after hours of featureless plain walking.
