Burguete, known in Basque as Auritz, is a municipality in Navarra situated in the valley below Roncesvalles, on the plain between the Pyrenees and the Erro river valley. The town has a distinctive architectural character: a single main street lined with wide-fronted stone and whitewashed houses, many with characteristic red-painted wooden doors and shutters.

Ernest Hemingway used Burguete as a base for trout fishing in the 1920s and described it in The Sun Also Rises, contributing to its cultural recognition beyond the Camino. The town retains its tranquil, unhurried character with farms still operating on the surrounding pastureland.

For pilgrims, Burguete offers the first overnight accommodation option after Roncesvalles, with a slightly warmer atmosphere than the monastery complex above.
