As Maroñas

As Maroñas is a small locality in the municipality of Santa Comba, in the province of A Coruña, Galicia, on the Camino de Fisterra and Muxía routes. The name is a Galician toponym of uncertain derivation. The locality sits on the interior plateau as the terrain begins to shift from the highest open ground toward the descending valleys that lead toward the Atlantic coast.

The landscape around As Maroñas has the open agricultural character of the central plateau, with wide views in multiple directions and the first hints of the coastal terrain visible ahead. The route here is one of the longer flat sections before the more dramatic topography of the final approaches to Fisterra and Muxía.
