Villavante

Villavante is a small locality in the municipality of Santa Marina del Rey, León, on the Camino Frances between San Martín del Camino and Hospital de Orbigo. The settlement is a quiet farming community on the flat Orbigo valley agricultural plain.

The surrounding terrain is the irrigated valley land of the Orbigo river system, with maize, cereal, and vegetable crops on the flat alluvial soil. Poplar plantations and irrigation channels provide visual texture in the otherwise flat terrain.

For pilgrims, Villavante is the final passage point before the major architectural landmark of the Orbigo bridge, with the first views of the bridge approach visible ahead on the flat plain.
