Description
Villademoros is a small locality in the municipality of Valdés, in Asturias, situated on the clifftop terrain approaching Luarca from the east. The name combines villa, meaning settlement, with de moros, meaning of the Moors, a toponym found across northern Spain that typically marks a site with pre-medieval archaeological remains or fortifications historically attributed to the Moorish period.
The locality sits on the final clifftop approach to Luarca, where the fishing port’s white houses become visible in the ravine below on the western horizon. The transition from the isolated clifftop to the arrival at Luarca is one of the more dramatic on the western Asturian coast.
