Vila Chã

Vila Chã is a civil parish in the municipality of Vila do Conde, in the Porto district. The name means flat village or plain village, describing its low-lying coastal position on the Atlantic shore. The parish has a fishing heritage and a long sandy beach backed by dune vegetation, with the open sea as the defining geographic feature.

The coastal Camino Português passes directly through Vila Chã on the beachfront path, making it one of the more dramatically situated stages of the route. The flat coastal plain, the wide beach, and the uninterrupted Atlantic horizon give the section a spacious, elemental quality.
