Descripción
Tosantos is a small municipality in the province of Burgos, Castilla y León, situated on the Camino Frances between Belorado and Vilambistia. The village is best known for the cave chapel of Nuestra Señora de la Peña, a small hermitage carved into the cliff face rising directly above the village houses.
The chapel is accessible by a short steep path and occupies a natural recess in the rock, with the cliff forming part of the chapel walls. The image of Our Lady of Peña is venerated here, and the sanctuary provides one of the more unusual pilgrim devotional sites on this section of the route.
The village itself is a small farming community on the Oca mountain approach, with stone houses and the typical open plain terrain of this stage. For pilgrims, the cave chapel is the reason to pause at Tosantos, a hidden gem in an otherwise unassuming village.
