Descripción
Seixas is a civil parish in the municipality of Caminha, in the Viana do Castelo district, situated on the northern approach to Caminha along the Minho estuary. The parish has a traditional Minho character, with granite farmhouses, smallholder cultivation, and vine pergolas on granite posts typical of the lower Minho valley.
The name likely derives from sexa or seixo, referring to schist or gravel terrain, common in the riverbeds and lower slopes of this part of the Minho valley. The surrounding landscape has the green, enclosed quality of the lower Minho, with the river and estuary never far from view.
On the Camino Português coastal variant, Seixas lies between Caminha and the final approach to Valença, in the riverside corridor that follows the Minho northward toward the border crossing.
