Description

Edit

Santa Irene is a waypoint in the province of A Coruña, Galicia, on the Camino Frances on the final stage between Arzúa and O Pedrouzo. The site is associated with a wayside chapel and fonte santa, a holy spring, dedicated to Saint Irene, a third-century martyr saint.

The fonte santa is a natural spring whose water has historically been attributed healing properties, and small offerings and devotional objects are often left at the site. The surrounding woodland and the enclosed path character give Santa Irene a peaceful, contemplative atmosphere.

For pilgrims, Santa Irene is one of the more devotionally charged waypoints on the penultimate stage, the fonte santa and the chapel providing a brief sacred encounter in the woodland.
