Description
Sámano is a locality in the municipality of Castro Urdiales, in Cantabria, situated in the valley inland from the coast. The village has a traditional character centred on the Romanesque church of San Andrés, which retains twelfth-century fabric including a carved portal and early architectural details.
The surrounding terrain is the enclosed green valley landscape of the Cantabrian interior, with pasture, mixed woodland, and the small agricultural plots typical of this part of the north coast. The Camino del Norte passes through Sámano on the inland variant before rejoining the coast at Castro Urdiales or continuing westward.
