Description

Edit

Peñaseita is a small locality in the municipality of Allande, in Asturias, on the Camino Primitivo mountain route between Pola de Allande and Grandas de Salime. The name combines peña, meaning rock or crag, with seita, possibly a local family name or terrain descriptor. The rocky terrain suggested by the toponym is consistent with the exposed sierra character of this section of the route.

The setting is the high mountain terrain of the western Asturian sierra, between the medieval hospital ruins that mark the former stages of the Primitivo mountain crossing. The route here passes through the most remote and scenically dramatic landscape of the entire Camino Primitivo.
