Padinho

Padinho is a small locality in the municipality of Vila do Conde or the adjacent Porto district area, set in the agricultural hinterland north of the Maia urban area. The landscape here is characteristic of the Entre-Douro-e-Minho region: small irregular field plots divided by granite walls and hedgerows, with maize, kale, and market garden crops growing on well-watered soils.

Granite remains the dominant building and boundary material, giving the local built environment its textural coherence. The raised espigueiro granaries, used for drying maize cobs, are a distinctive visual element of this part of northern Portugal.

The Camino Português passes through or near Padinho on the long section between the Porto metropolitan area and Barcelos, where the route gradually recovers a rural atmosphere.
