Description

Edit

Noja is a municipality in Cantabria situated on a small peninsula between the Santoña marshes and the Joyel estuary, on the open Atlantic coast. The town has a beach resort character built around its two main beaches, the Playa de Ris and the Playa de Trengandín, which frame the peninsula on its northern Atlantic-facing shore.

The coastal dune system at Noja includes some of the more intact Atlantic dune habitat on the Cantabrian coast, with the Parque Natural de las Marismas de Santoña, Victoria y Joyel protecting the marshland on the southern side of the peninsula. The combination of beach, dune, and marsh gives the area a rich natural character.

For pilgrims on the Camino del Norte, Noja is a full-service town marking the transition between the Asón estuary zone and the coastal villages approaching Santander.
