Description
Nasbinals is a commune in the Lozere department, situated near the centre of the Aubrac plateau. The village has a compact stone character with the eleventh-century Romanesque church of Sainte-Marie at its centre, one of the better-preserved early Romanesque buildings on the plateau, known for its octagonal crossing tower.
The surrounding Aubrac landscape is its defining context: vast open meadow, granite and basalt outcrops, and the distinctive Aubrac cattle that produce the milk for Laguiole cheese and the Tome fraiche used in Aligot. The drailles, traditional drove roads, converge on villages like Nasbinals as natural route centres on the plateau.
