Mouzos

Mouzos is a small locality in the municipality of Vilanova de Arousa, Pontevedra, Galicia, situated on the shore of the Ría de Arousa on the Camino Espiritual route. The settlement is one of the coastal points where the variant route approaches the estuary water before the boat crossing that is the symbolic centrepiece of the Espiritual itinerary.

The Ría de Arousa is the largest of the Rías Baixas, a broad Atlantic estuary known for its mussel and shellfish production. The mussel platforms, or bateas, visible on the water surface of the ría are one of the most distinctive visual features of this estuary, their regular rectangular forms covering large areas of the shallow water.

For pilgrims, reaching Mouzos and the estuary shore represents the emotional high point of the Camino Espiritual approach: the moment when the water becomes visible and the boat crossing ahead becomes real.
