Description
Limogne-en-Quercy is a commune in the Lot department, situated at the centre of the Causse de Limogne. The village functions as the main service stop on the causse crossing, with a weekly market and the typical Quercy stone architecture of warm limestone and blue-grey lauze roofing tiles.
The surrounding Causse de Limogne is famous for black truffle production, with the particular combination of limestone soil and scrub oak providing the ideal conditions for Tuber melanosporum. Wayside stone crosses are frequent features on the causse tracks.
For pilgrims, Limogne is an important resupply point in an otherwise sparse landscape, and the experience of walking on the open causse, with its wide sky and white paths, is one of the more meditative stretches of the Via Podiensis.
