Larrabetzu

Larrabetzu is a municipality in the province of Bizkaia in the Basque Country, situated in a sheltered valley below the Bizkargi ridge that separates the interior from the Bilbao metropolitan area. The village has a compact traditional character with the church of San Emeterio and San Celedonio at its centre and older stone houses around the main square.

The surrounding landscape is characteristic of the Bizkaia interior: steep forested hillsides descending to the valley floor, with pasture and smallholder cultivation in the flatter terrain. The ascent to the Bizkargi ridge on the Camino del Norte approach is one of the more demanding climbs of the Bizkaia section, rewarded by panoramic views over the Gernika basin behind and the Bilbao basin ahead.
