Description

Edit

Grandas de Salime is a town and municipality in Asturias, situated above the Salime reservoir in the western Asturian mountains near the Galician border. The town is the last Asturian settlement of significance on the Camino Primitivo before the route crosses into Galicia at the Acebo pass.

The town has a pre-Romanesque church, San Salvador de Grandas, and the Museo Etnográfico de Grandas de Salime, one of the most comprehensive ethnographic collections in Asturias, preserving traditional tools, farming equipment, and material culture from the western Asturian mountain communities.

For pilgrims, Grandas de Salime is a full-service stop before the Galician border crossing, and the ethnographic museum provides unexpected depth on the traditional culture of the mountain communities through which the Camino Primitivo has passed.
