Description
Furelos is a locality in the municipality of Melide, A Coruña, Galicia, on the Camino Frances immediately before the town of Melide. The village is notable for the medieval bridge of four arches spanning the Furelos river, a well-preserved example of medieval bridge construction that continues in use on the Camino path.
The church of San Juan de Furelos, a Romanesque structure of the twelfth century, provides the principal ecclesiastical monument. The village occupies the valley floor of the Furelos river, with the river providing a pleasant water feature before the ascent to Melide.
For pilgrims, Furelos is effectively the final passage before Melide, one of the largest towns of the final A Coruña stages and the junction where the Camino Primitivo joins the Camino Frances.
