Descripción
Fuente Sidres is a water source and waypoint on the Meseta plain in the province of Burgos, Castilla y León, situated between Hornillos del Camino and Hontanas on the Camino Frances. The name refers to a spring or fountain associated with sidra, cider, possibly from the apple trees that once grew here or from a local family name.
The site is one of the few reliable water points on the most barren section of the early Meseta, where the open plain stretches uninterrupted between villages. The fountain and its surrounding terrain represent the quintessential Meseta experience: vast sky, flat land, and the minimal human infrastructure that has sustained pilgrims for centuries.
For pilgrims, Fuente Sidres provides a psychological as well as physical waypoint on a long and otherwise featureless stage.
