Fresno del Camino

Fresno del Camino is a small municipality in the province of León, on the Camino Frances between La Virgen del Camino and the Páramo plateau. The name derives from fresno, the Spanish word for ash tree, indicating that ash trees once characterised the local terrain or a particular grove near the settlement.

The village has a compact stone character with traditional Leonese farmhouses and a simple parish church. The surrounding landscape is the agricultural plain transitioning from the León valley toward the higher Páramo plateau, with cereal fields and pasture on the gently rising terrain.
