Description

Edit

Concha is a small locality in the municipality of Ruiloba, in Cantabria, situated on the coastal terrain between La Iglesia de Ruiloba and Comillas. The name means shell or conch, likely referring to the curved, shell-shaped form of a small bay or inlet visible from the clifftop terrain.

The locality sits in the elevated pastoral landscape above the Oyambre bay system, with views over the Atlantic and the approach to Comillas visible ahead. The surrounding terrain has the green enclosed quality of the Cantabrian clifftop hinterland, with gorse scrub on the exposed ground and meadow in the sheltered hollows.

On the Camino del Norte, Concha is a passage point in the final approach to Comillas, where the route follows the clifftop ridge before descending into the architecturally remarkable town.
