Casanova

Casanova is a small locality in the province of Lugo, Galicia, on the Camino Frances between Palas de Rei and the provincial boundary with A Coruña. The name means new house, a common Galician toponym recording the establishment of a new farmstead in a previously uncultivated area.

The hamlet has a compact stone character in the enclosed wooded valley terrain west of Palas de Rei. The route here passes through a combination of oak woodland and green pasture typical of the Lugo-A Coruña border zone.

For pilgrims, Casanova is a quiet passage point near the provincial boundary, the enclosed green quality of the terrain consistent with the final Lugo stages before Melide.
