Description
Caldas de Reis is a municipality in the province of Pontevedra, Galicia, situated on the Umia river. The town has been known since antiquity for its thermal springs, referenced by Roman writers, which emerge at temperatures around 43 degrees Celsius. Several thermal bath establishments remain in operation today.
The historic centre has a compact character with the Romanesque church of Santa María at its heart, a medieval bridge over the Umia, and a riverside promenade flanked by thermal installations. The warm springs flow openly through the town, and pilgrims traditionally stop to soak their feet in the public thermal pools.
Caldas de Reis is one of the most distinctive stages on the Camino Português, combining natural thermal heritage, medieval architecture, and the convivial atmosphere of a well-established pilgrimage town.
