Descripción
Balugaes is a parish in the municipality of Barcelos, in the Braga district. It occupies gently rolling agricultural terrain between Barcelos and the Lima river valley, in the Minho’s typical smallholder landscape of maize, vine, and kale on small granite-walled plots.
The village has a traditional residential and farming character, with the parish church as its central anchor. The surrounding countryside is green and well-watered, with the Lima valley becoming visible as the terrain begins its gentle descent toward Ponte de Lima.
Balugaes is a recognised stop on the Camino Português, one of several small parishes that provide rhythm on the long day’s walk between Barcelos and the Lima crossing.
