Description
Areal de Langosteira is a long sandy beach in the municipality of Fisterra, in the province of A Coruña, Galicia. It is one of the most significant features of the final stage of the Camino de Fisterra, where pilgrims leave the road and walk along the beach directly toward the cape. The beach stretches for over two kilometres in a broad arc, with the cape visible at its northern end.
The name combines areal, meaning sandy beach, with Langosteira, a toponym possibly related to langosteiro, a type of fishing creel or crustacean trap. The beach is flanked by dunes and coastal scrub, and the walk along the sand is a memorable final approach to the end of the pilgrimage route.
