Description

Edit

Ages is a small municipality in the province of Burgos, Castilla y León, situated in the valley below the Atapuerca ridge on the Camino Frances. The village has a compact stone character with the Romanesque church of Santa Eulalia, whose oldest fabric dates to the eleventh century, and a pilgrim fountain that provides water before the Atapuerca ridge crossing.

The surrounding terrain is the pastoral valley landscape at the foot of the Atapuerca hills, where the route begins to approach the famous archaeological complex that lies on the ridge above. The village of Ages is closely associated in the pilgrim imagination with the Atapuerca site that follows immediately after.

For pilgrims, Ages is a well-serviced village providing accommodation and the last water before the Atapuerca crossing, often cited as one of the more pleasant overnight stops in this section.
