Description
A Parrocha is a small locality in the province of Lugo, Galicia, on the Camino Frances on the final descent toward the Portomarin bridge and reservoir crossing. The hamlet has a compact stone character with the enclosed valley terrain giving way to the first views of the Miño reservoir below.
As the path descends toward the reservoir, the enclosed woodland opens to reveal the wide body of water and the distinctive silhouette of Portomarin on its promontory above the far bank. A Parrocha is the last hamlet before the path reaches the bridge approach.
For pilgrims, A Parrocha marks the final descent to one of the most visually striking moments of the Galician stages, the approach to Portomarin over the long modern bridge above the dammed Miño.
