Description

Edit

A Agualada is a small locality in the province of A Coruña, Galicia, on the Camino Inglés route. The name derives from agualada or agoada, indicating a place that is frequently flooded, irrigated, or persistently wet, a terrain type common in the low-lying Galician valleys where poor drainage creates saturated soils and seasonal flooding.

The wet meadow character suggested by the name is consistent with the river valley terrain of the A Coruña interior, where the impermeable granite bedrock and the humid Atlantic climate combine to keep certain low-lying areas perpetually damp. Traditional farming adapted to this terrain with wet meadow hay cutting and cattle grazing.
