Zamudio

Zamudio is a municipality in the province of Bizkaia in the Basque Country, situated in the valley immediately north of the Bilbao metropolitan area. The municipality is home to the Bizkaia Technology Park (Parque Tecnológico de Bizkaia), one of the first and most significant science and technology parks established in Spain, which opened in 1985 and has become a major centre for research, development, and high-technology industry.

Despite its modern technological identity, the municipality retains a green valley character with forested hillsides and traditional caserio farmhouses visible among the campus buildings. The contrast between the innovation infrastructure and the Basque rural landscape gives Zamudio an unusual character.

For pilgrims on the Camino del Norte, Zamudio is the last named locality before the route descends into the Bilbao urban environment.
