Varaire

Varaire is a commune in the Lot department, situated on the Causse de Limogne between Limogne-en-Quercy and the approach to Cahors. The village has a modest stone character with the church of Saint-Martin and the typical Quercy dry-stone wall and causse oak landscape surrounding it.

The causse at Varaire is at its most open and flat, with the wide horizon and the limestone track character that defines this section of the Via Podiensis. Dolmens, the prehistoric megalithic burial chambers found frequently across the Quercy causses, are sometimes visible from the route in this area, adding a prehistoric dimension to the landscape.
