Description

Edit

Tineo is a town and municipality in Asturias, situated in the valley of the Nonaya river below the Tineo mountain range. The town is a significant stage on the Camino Primitivo between the Salas approach and the higher mountain crossings heading toward Grandas de Salime and the Galician border.

The historic centre has the collegiate church of San Pedro de Tineo, a Baroque structure with a monumental facade, and several stone noble houses that attest to the town’s medieval administrative importance. The surrounding municipality encompasses the rugged sierra terrain that gives the western Asturian Primitivo some of its most challenging and scenically dramatic stages.

For pilgrims, Tineo provides full services at a critical point on the route, after which the Camino Primitivo enters the highest and most remote terrain of the entire journey before descending into Galicia.
